A.V.A. - Virtual Listening Environment

An immersive platform to promote cultural connections through listening, dedicated to sonic arts and offering a space for unconventional sound experiences. The AVA ambient is based on the structure of Dante’s Divine Comedy: the experience starts in the Dark Woods (Selva Oscura) and it will then move though Hell, Purgatory and Paradise.

Commissioned by MACRO – Contemporary Art Museum of Rome in collaboration with the American Academy in Rome and Promu – All For Music. This project was concieved and developed in partnership with AUDITORIUM, founded by Jacopo Carreras and Emanuele de Raimondi.

The Journey

Hell

Hell

The first stop is in Hell. Here a set of Eyes and Mouths will appear. The latter will play a sound which, when interacting with the eyes, can be modulated, providing the same functionality as an equalizer.

Purgatory

Purgatory

We’ll now step into Purgatory. Here, by uploading a valid audio track, you can visualize its sound spectrum through generated Cubes of varying size and colour, creating a unique visual effect.

Paradise

Paradise

The last stop, Paradise. Here, you can experience the spatiality of the supported audio tracks, observing a stunning light display across the columns. Depending on their position, these columns define the direction of the audio playback.
